Missionaries of St. Charles, Scalabrinians
At St. Ann’s we are blessed to be led in our faith by the Missionaries of St. Charles, Scalabrinians.
The Scalabrinians are a Catholic community of priests and brothers founded on November 28, 1887 by Blessed Bishop John Baptist Scalabrini. They share in the Mission of the Church through specific service to migrants and refugees. They labor on a “grass-roots” level with those who suffer the trauma of migration and on the level of government and scholarship to sensitize society to the needs of those displaced and uprooted.
Present in 31 countries of the five continents. In Canada they serve migrants and refugees from Italy, Portugal, Azores, Mexico, Central and South America, Philippines and Korea, in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.
“We become migrants with the migrants, so as to build with them, even by the witness of our life and our community, the Church, which in its earthly pilgrimage associates itself particularly with the poorest and the most abandoned classes of people.” (Rules of Life, 2)
